An entrepreneur's social capital and performance: the role of access to information in the Argentinean case

Design/methodology/approach - A structural equations model (SEM) is estimated and validated from a database including information from 282 Argentinean entrepreneurs who answered a questionnaire specifically designed for this research. Social capital and economic growth in Europe: nonlinear trends and heterogeneous regional effects
2016
After two decades of academic debate on the social capital-growth nexus, discussion still remains open. Most of the literature so far, however, has followed the one-size-its-all approach, neglecting that the great disparities across geographical units might have implications in this relationship. This article analyzes the role of two social capital indicators on the growth of 237 European regions in the period 1995–2007 by implementing a set of both parametric and non- parametric regressions. Whereas the former impose a linear functional form for the parameters, the latter relax this assumption providing a flexible frame in which the functional form is given by the data. The technique also …
The Different Roles of Structural and Cognitive Social Capital on Oral Health-Related Quality of Life among Adolescents
2023
This study evaluated the relationship of structural and cognitive dimensions of social capital with oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) among adolescents. This was a cross-sectional study nested in a cohort of adolescents from southern Brazil. OHRQoL was evaluated using the short version of the Child Perceptions Questionnaire 11-14 (CPQ11-14). Structural social capital was measured by attendance of religious meetings and social networks from friends and neighbours. Cognitive social capital was evaluated through trust in friends and neighbours, perception of relationships in the neighbourhood, and social support during hard times. Multilevel Poisson regression analysis was performed…
Governing Local Area Development through Dynamic Performance Management
2017
Several attempts of local areas development fail due to a predominant attention to the internal performance of public organizations. The perspective of local area development may enhance performance management in public entities by considering: a) their outcomes in the local area; b) the inter-institutional relationships actable with other local areas’ organizations to achieve such outcome; c) the improvement of the activity of other social institutions, enterprises and families, through networking and trust. This paper proposes a dynamic performance management (DPM) conceptual model to govern local area development and includes a case study of the Integrated Water System of Agrigento, Ital…
The Role of Ambidexterity and Vacillation on Firms' Innovation: an Inter-firm Network Perspective
2014
This article examines the underexplored balancing between exploration and exploitation in inter-firm network dimension by applying an ambidexterity and vacillation behavior and how this impacts on different firm’s innovation performances. We propose reconciliation between exploration and exploitation within a network of inter-firm ties, by matching two specific structural network embeddedness positions that are centrality and structural holes. We observe how a firm reconciles exploitation and exploration in their inter-firm networks by adopting two different behaviors, ambidexterity and vacillation. According to the former a firm statically assumes in the same time a network position charac…
Report relativo all'indagine qualitativa effettuata nel territorio del Calatino Sud-Simeto
2019
From the crowd to the market: The role of reward-based crowdfunding performance in attracting professional investors
2017
Abstract We focus on new technology-based entrepreneurial ventures engaging in reward-based crowdfunding and examine the effect of their performance in such funding channel on the likelihood of securing subsequent funding from professional investors. We also study how this effect is influenced by the presence of patents granted for the new product idea and the entrepreneur social capital. Results from a sample of technology projects launched on Kickstarter demonstrate that pledging a higher amount of money in crowdfunding can ignite professional investors’ interest and thus help secure subsequent funding. However, this positive evidence is effective only when complemented by the presence of…
Diseguaglianze, fiducia e capitale sociale nel Mezzogiorno
2014
How can it be explained that certain societies have a higher or lower endowment of social capital in than others? Some data will be provided here which suggest that the endowment of social capital can be traced to a certain configuration of social relationships. It is possible to identify in social relationships the reasons that motivate the social actors to not be involved in producing social capital. The aim is to explore the relationship between social capital and inequality, verifying whether the available data corroborate the argument that the shortage of social capital in the south of Italy can be attributed to a greater incidence of inequality and identifying which social mechanisms …

Virtual network, emotional capital and social movements
2019
In the first chapter, I examine the strong impact of social media on the creation of virtual communities and if and how mobile technology and social networks represent elements for relational occasions, in order to and build of bridging social capital. Relational occasions are the bridges that individuals use and “cross” to create sharing on issues of social interest. Social media transform the traditional characteristics of so- cial relationships in the pre-digital age. The way technology is used changes the quality, frequency, availability, selection and exit mechanisms of social relationships. In this way, social re- lationships modify the mechanisms that generate social and emotional ca…
